Pathways To Presence
Awaken Serenity and Confidence through Horseback and Yoga Journey
LUXOR, EGYPT
March 22-29 2025
If you’re an adventurous soul with a passion for horses and a yearning for personal growth through solo travel, then join us for a retreat where you are going to come away with a rejuvenated sense of confidence, deep connections with fellow free spirits, and unforgettable experiences in the enchanting landscapes of Luxor.
The sun is about to set, and the yellow mountains of the afternoon are bathed in a special light. The chatter fades away naturally, leaving only the rhythmic sound of the hooves of horses that were born in this land and have taken on its beauty and vigor, its strength and personality.
If you close your eyes, your horse’s legs are your legs and their actions are your intentions. A oneness forms between you and the powerful being beneath you. When you open your eyes again, you see tents on the horizon where the sun is slowly setting. With each breath, the feeling of belonging grows stronger. You inhale and your body seems to expand, you exhale and everything relaxes inside you. You feel alive simply by being.
You arrive at the camp and dismount, stroking the horse’s mane. Your heart is full of gratitude.

You are aware that something magical is about to happen. What your body feels is the strength of the desert and its creatures that have the power to live in absolute silence and in space without visual limits. You feel it inside, your soul silently reconnecting with your body, your mind is quiet, with your focus turned inward.
Here, in the vastness, you are surrounded by beauty and power. The silence is deafening, yet it is also full of life. You feel a sense of peace and tranquility that you have never felt before. You are at one with yourself and with the world around you.
This is a moment that you will never forget. A moment that whispers of a transformation yet to unfold.
… And now tell me:
How awesome would it feel to know that you are finally ticking all those amazing adventures on the list of things you want to experience in your lifetime?
On this trip, through visiting ancient historical sites, galloping in the desert and saluting the sun at dawn and dusk, you will get to experience the magic of many adventures in one so you start making your dreams come true.
Wouldn’t it be invigorating to spend an entire week outdoors with nothing but nature and horses in front of your eyes?
Of course, during this escape, through our rides in the Nile Valley you’ll experience the beauty of the Egyptian mountains, desert and the sacred river so you can return home feeling recharged and reinvigorated.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you would lose all that insecurity when it comes to do things on your own?
Indeed! During our journey, through motivational guided meditations and empowering yoga sessions you will get the awareness of your own inner potential so you can build the confidence to live your life freely on your own terms.

The female pharaoh who defied societal norms to ascend the throne reminding you of the indomitable spirit of womanhood. Today, we invite you to embrace the role of the adventurer and embark on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery.
Let’s walk through time beneath the towering columns of Karnak Temple, once the heart of ancient Thebes. Its grandeur is inviting you to reflect on your own beliefs and aspirations before we’ll transform into equestrian explorers in the afternoon, leaving behind the ancient capital to immerse ourselves in the embrace of nature for another introspective journey. The desert landscape will serve as a mirror, reflecting our inner selves.
Once we reach the camp at sunset, we’ll take care of our bodies during a rejuvenating yoga practice and after our dinner, we’ll gather around a crackling campfire reflecting on our current lives, recognizing our inherent worth and identifying the forces that may be holding us back. What would happen if we consciously chose to liberate ourselves from the limitations that weigh us down?

With our bodies invigorated, we’ll embark on a new horseback riding adventure going deeper into the desert as we deepen our connection with our equine companions.
After our dinner, as the desert stars twinkle above our new campsite, we celebrate a milestone. Remember that limiting belief we decided to leave behind, the one holding you back from reaching your full potential? Well, tonight, you embody your most authentic self! Gather your thoughts, feelings, and the incredible experiences you’ve had on this journey, share them in a letter you would write to your best friend. This morning, we’ll immerse ourselves in the vibrant energy of the Luxor souk, where bargaining is an art form, and a fair deal that leaves both buyer and seller happy is considered the heart of the experience.
Prepare to be dazzled by a kaleidoscope of colors and a symphony of exotic fragrances.
Throughout this sensory adventure, we’ll embrace mindfulness while indulging in the joyful spirit of the marketplace. After filling our shopping bags, we’ll go back to the hotel and savor a delectable lunch that will further tantalize our taste buds.
We’ll have a moment to refresh before embarking on a horseback ride through the scenic Luxor countryside. As the sun dips below the horizon, we’ll gather for a reflective moment. This journey is nearing its conclusion, and our final yoga practice together will serve as an anchor, solidifying this transformative holiday within you.

DAY 8
A Journey’s End, a New Beginning: Soaring Above Luxor
Our last day together, you will wake up at dawn when your trusty steed will carry you where hot air balloons will gently ascend against the backdrop of the majestic city of Luxor.
Let this view represent the entirety of your retreat experience. Reflect on the transformative lessons learned, the connections forged, and the immense personal growth you’ve achieved.
We’ll then gather for a heartwarming breakfast before bid farewells are exchanged. As you prepare your luggage for departure, consider packing two distinct bags. One should hold the belongings you brought with you, while the other should represent the invaluable tools you’ve acquired during this journey – self-knowledge, confidence, and the inspiration to become the best version of yourself.

Meet Annmarie & Ganun
Horses & Hieroglyphs founders
In early 2020, I went on vacation with a friend to Egypt, looking for a much needed adventure and nothing more. But Egypt completely enthralled me; it was unlike anything I was familiar with and a refreshing change of pace – from the environment and way of life to the spirited horses – and by the end of the trip I found it very hard to leave…

…To top it off, I met my now-partner, Ganun (riding, of course!), and we instantly connected. Although I had to return to the US, we knew we wanted to be together. When Ganun shared his hopes of starting his own horse rescue and riding stable, I saw an opportunity to make a life change, and it wasn’t long before we began the journey of making this a reality. A little over a year later, Horses & Hieroglyphs was formed.
From different corners of the world, Ganun and I connected thanks to a mutual love of horses.
Born and raised in Luxor, Ganun has loved and ridden horses since he was a child, having developed the interest from his father. Starting out as a groom, he quickly advanced to become a riding guide, working in various places around Egypt from Sharm El-Sheikh to Hurghada before settling back in Luxor. Horses have been a way of life for him for over 17 years now, and his remarkable horsemanship is a testament to his extensive experience. Besides guiding rides, he also trains, breeds, shows, and rescues horses. He has become rather well-known among the horse community in Egypt, especially in his hometown of Luxor, where he is a go-to guy for any and all things horse related!
I grew up in Syracuse, New York and caught the “bug” for horses at a young age. At 10 years old, I went on my first trail ride for a friend’s birthday party, after which I insisted on taking riding lessons and began learning everything I could about horses. I took lessons in western riding for about 6 years and learned reining, then ventured into training young horses before having to take a break from riding to prepare for college. Although a career with horses was a dream, I eventually decided to study engineering and keep horses a hobby, hoping to someday own one of my own. I was working as an engineer and riding infrequently when I took the trip that changed the course of my life.
Meet Sabrina
Yoga Instructor
As a child, my imagination transformed the living room into a vast prairie, where I galloped on an imaginary steed. I longed to ride real horses, but my mother’s protective love and financial constraints made it impossible.
As I grew older, my insistence faded, and I followed a conventional path – completing my studies and taking a nearby job. But beneath the surface, a growing frustration gnawed at me.
Life, in its universal wisdom, often guides us towards our true calling. When we don’t heed its whispers, it may send a gentle nudge or a more forceful push. For me, it was the latter. At the age of 23, my life took an unexpected turn…

…leading me down the path of independence. I left the comfort of home, shed a stifling job, and embraced the unknown, guided by an inner compass. This journey led me to self-discovery, healing, and a reawakening of my childhood dream – horseback riding.
Along the way, I discovered yoga, a practice that mirrored my equestrian pursuits. Both disciplines taught me to connect with my body, mind, and spirit, shedding old fears and embracing new possibilities.
Today, I am a passionate beginner horsewoman and certified yoga instructor, with nearly 5 years of teaching experience, combining my two passions to create retreats that empower others to find their true path. I teach Hatha and Yin yoga, guiding my students towards mindfulness and self-awareness.
I share my story with you, intrepid traveler, as a beacon of hope. If you feel lost, yearning for a change but held back by fear, know that you are not alone. Embrace the journey of self-discovery, and let your passions guide you towards a life of fulfillment.

Meet The Horses
The horses are mainly the local breed commonly found across Egypt, referred to as “Baladi” or simply Egyptian horses. These horses are native to Egypt and have mixed bloodlines with Arabian and European influences. They are intelligent, forward-going, and responsive, with more power and speed than their small size would suggest. They are excellent trail horses, unafraid of traffic, other animals, or anything unexpected in their path, and you can feel that they truly enjoy their work. Their sweet nature will help give nervous riders confidence and encourage anyone who meets them to fall in love with them…

…most of the horses at H&H have been rescued from difficult situations and rehabilitated. Their stories are unique and the mistreatment they’ve endured varies. Some were extremely malnourished while others suffered from untreated wounds, abscesses, or other medical issues. Others were severely mishandled, beaten, or subjected to cruel “training” methods. In some cases, it was a combination of these circumstances. After time with proper care, medical treatment, and gentle handling, they’ve become wonderful riding horses. Their resilience is truly remarkable.
At H&H, the horses are part of the family and the team is intimately familiar with each horse’s unique personality, allowing them to find the perfect match for their riders. They have horses for all levels from complete beginners to lifelong equestrians, and they will make sure you are both excited and at ease with your horse so you can enjoy the ride to the fullest.
As we, the organizers, meticulously crafted and envisioned this extraordinary journey, we found ourselves exhilarated with each new idea and refinement. We eagerly await your arrival, ready to welcome you with open arms into this unforgettable adventure.
